Sounds like your too lean, Throwing any codes? since you said its a misfire on Cyl 1 then I assume you have a data logger. Check your fuel trims and O2's for erratic behavior. I data log all the time so when somthing is a little off I spot it quickly, good luck

The convertor is red hot from being overloaded with fuel-it will affect the entire engine not just one cylinder if it were clogged. In other words the cylinder 1 misfire is causing the convertor to be loaded with fuel creating the red hot glow.It may be damaged from this but it's not what is causing the problem.Check the plug in cylinder #1-is this a new engine? It may be a problem w/new motor.Or defective coil pack.Swapping this stuff to the cylinder next to it would be one method of diagnosing this. The misfire would move if it was the part you just moved(plug, coil pack, etc.)

Spark plug, spark plug wire, coil pack, fuel injector. Try swapping those parts with other cylinders and see if the misfire moves to that cylinder.
Do a compression test to verify the cylinder is healthy. Do a leakdown test to verify that you don't have a bad intake or exhaust valve.

Your converter isn't going to cause a misfire on only one cylinder, as stated before. You have to check what's going on with that one cylinder. Check for spark, check for fuel.
For now, don't worry about the symptom (the converter), find the problem.
