might be buying camaro
hi, i was looking at a 1998 six speed ls1 camaro for sale i have a v6 camaro so i know alot about them. the ls1 camaro is only 3000$ but theres a catch the engine has a hi end knock and reverse is out on the transmission and i dont know weather or not its a good deal to buy because most ls1 go for around 8000$ i thought it would be a good idea to ask some people?

Well if you can afford a nicer one that probly be the best option. The car probly had the shit ran out of it and end up being more problems and $, that's my 2 cents

If its a 6 speed the transmission has some bad syncros in it and they will need to be replaced if it is completely out, thats probably anywhere from 1000-1500 depending on the shop. The knock, i dunno i wouldn't trust anything with engine knock. New engines, are around 2500 at a junk yard inless you can find a good deal from someone, your basically paying 3k for a shell. Someone else might walk in here and say otherwise but thats how im looking at it. It honestly sounds like someone missed a shift and you have some rod knock now. The more hes driven it the worse off the engine is. Also keep in mind if thats it its been beat on really bad so your looking at replacing other things in the near future.

The engine knock could be NOTHING...OR it could be ALOT. I would have it listened to by someone who knows these engines before buying it. The trans work is cheap enough but be sure the rear isn't worn out too. These rears are fragile and if the oil wasn't changed regularly its gonna need some work.
