    maybe a dumb question...

When accelerating fairly quickly from a stop, my car makes a strange rumble. I can't pinpoint what it is, but it almost sounds like barbed wire wrapped around my drive shaft. It only happens from a stop or at low speeds while accelerating fairly quickly. I don't notice it when I step on it, or above 30mph-ish. Someone told me it was normal and blah blah something about torque blah blah. Is it normal, or should I check it out?

Could be just your tires trying to get traction.

you might be right, although I don't think I accelerate THAT fast. It feels like the rumble is coming from just behind the tranny... but then again, it's hard to tell. I was hoping someone would tell me they feel the same thing. Oh well, if something's gunna break, it's gunna break. :-) Thanks for the reply.

Could be U-joints in early stage of failure. Will make the driveshaft make strange popping sounds.

If its the noise I am thinking of, it might be coming from the catitic converter, how does it sounds when you rev it up at a stop?

I'll replace them ASAP just to be safe.

I know what sound you're talking about, but I don't have cats on my car, so that's ruled out.
