LS1 swap - What cars came with LS1?

    Hi all,

I've got a WS6 T/A and am spoiled with the performance and efficiency of the LS1. I want to find a completed donor vehicle to drop an LS1 6 speed set up in my 64 ragtop Skylark. What years and makes came with the LS1? I'm also wondering if anyone has taken the complete wiring system and all and swapped it into a ride like this. The donor vehicle would cost enough. I can do any needed fabrication but want to minimize any other cost to do this swap.

    All help appreciated!!!

Try to get an 01 or 02, that have the better flowing LS6 intake manifold but you can't go wrong. Any LS donor motor will be rockin, if it's in descent shape. Good choice and good luck on your search for a stout donor.

Thanks for the info, the thought of a carb motor sucks after driving my WS6. They came in GTO's, vette's, camaros as well right? Know what years? I know TA's were 98 to 02. Were the LS1's installed in trucks too? Thanks again!

www.brphotrods.com speializes in lsx motor mount, header conversions
www.speartech.com custom tunes and wiring harness modifications or new harness, some turn key engine setups

these are the two that i have used and have had pretty good luck on my lsx swap into my 79 t/a hope this helps

and all the trucks had in ls based engines from 99 to present were the 5.3, 6.0, and 8.1 but no 5.7's But i have seen a few around that had made their way into one

    2004 and 2005 CTS-V has the 5.7liter LS6
    2006 and 2007 CTS-V has the 6.0liter LS2
Vettes make good donors for the engine but they have different transmission setup that won't work well for you.

The manual transmissions are different in the vettes? How about a 2006 GTO with the 6.0? Would that transmission not work well either? Can you explain?

    Thanks!

They all have the t-56 tranny, I think on the vettes they require some sort of linkage since the tranny is further from the shifter. If you are swapping it out and going custom (since you won't use the vettes interior) it won't be a problem.
egr is exhaust gas remission that comes on f-bodies 98-00 and slightly less efficient intake-8hp

The vette transmission is mount to the rear differential instead of the engine. vettes have a torque tube with a drive shaft in between the engine and transmission.
The internals are about the same but it won't bolt up to an LS1 without some reworking. Plus the backside of the trans need to be reworked for a driveshaft to hook up to it.

no...all C5 and C6 Corvettes have front engine, rear transmission with a torque tube in between.
