I have a 2000 silverado 1500 step side,I am looking at putting a LS1 and a L 80 trany in it. I have bean told that a LS6 will work ,I nead to know if the computer & wiring from the 5.3 I will be taking out will work.I was told that from 2000 to2004 that I could do this with the LS series. thank you later Darrell

Try posting in the GM Trucks section, or maybe even General Help, External Engine, or Computer and Tuning sections. Good luck with your swap!

Try to find an engine that comes with the ecm and wire harness. 5.3's are very plentiful.

Transmissions you can match up to almost anything. Turbo 300, 400, 700R4 do not require the ecm to be programmed for the transmission. 4L60e and 4L80e do.

Motor mounts, oil pan (and pick up tube if you require a different pan), drive shaft (may need different length), k member & transmission cross member (these effect the oil pan and transmission location mount, the cross member may have to be moved depending on the transmission.

Regarding the engines. - Fuel injection requires ecm where as carb doesn't unless you get a car with fuel injection setup.

Wire harness - you have a few options, none are easy or cheap. There are places that can take the harness of the engine and mate it to the dash instruments (not cheap, looking around $500-600), Painless Performance can make you a new harness for any engine and vehicle combo ($850-950). You can do it your self (hours of frustration and guess work , just make sure connectors and splices are covered, otherwise you can start a fire).
