Black- 91 Chevy Truck
LS1 question
I’ve found an LS1 & 4L60E from a 99 Vette, that I’m looking at to transplant into a 91 Chevy truck. But I’m not sure about the transmission bolting to the engine. I hope someone can advise me…. The 99 Vettes have the transmission where the rearend is in most cars and they have a transaxle in place of the tailpiece on the transmission. From the transaxel there is a huge, about 3 or 4” driveshaft that connects the transmission to the engine. The driveshaft has a bell housing at each end. At both ends of the engine and transmission there is what looks like to me, a torque converter. What I don’t know is, can the driveshaft and these “torque converters” be removed and the transmission be bolted directly to the engine of a 99 Corvette LS1 engine? I would think that they can but I don’t know and need to find out before I buy. And if the Corvette transmission can't be bolted directly to the engine, will a Camero transmission work? And does anyone know where I could look to find out for sure?

You're right, the vettes have a getrag transaxle. I do not know if you can do what you are asking or not...
In my opinion you'd be better off ditching the transaxle and finding a 4L60e transmission...that way you could keep the rear from your '91 truck.

That's what I want to do. I can't use the transaxle, but will any transmission match the bolt pattern in the 99 Vette LS1 belhousing?

Your best bet would be to look for a 98+ 4L60e and torque converter from an F-Body. You could likely also use the tranny and converter from a 99+ 1/2 ton truck. I know all the manufacturers who offer torque converters have a different application for LS1 automatics, so I doubt you'd be able to use anything over from your truck (probably has the TH-700R4 which is similar)

Depends on what you wanna do...they make intake manifolds to swap a ls1 to a carb..and msd has a igniton box and coils for it also. Then you could throw in a 700r4 and ditch the computer....otherwise you'll need a 4l60e/t-56 and a ls1 with everything
