Thumbs down LS1 Oil pressure prob for newbe

new guy here with a problem with getting oil pressure on 2002 LS1
installen in my 55 chevy. changed oil pans and pickup tube on the 40,000 mile engine
purchased from salvage yard. Should it have oil pressure using the starter only? I took
the plugs out and it spins fast but no pressure on the dakota digital.??
    How to prime etc?

    Smile oil pressure

Thanks for the help. Solved my problem by pulling the oil pan and screen. Found that the "O" ring to the screen had been pinched and a chunk had been taken out on the inside of the ring. Replaced the "O" ring, primed the pump with a vacuum tool that replaces the filter. She came up with 33 psi using the starter spinning the engine with the plugs out.

somehow I missed this thread.....glad you got it and while reading your thread I was wondering if you pinched that o-ring. Pretty common.

Thanks, the pinched "o" ring was realy not very apparent until I pulled it out of the block.

yep, all it takes is just a little nick in that o-ring to cause pressure problems. When I did my ported pump it was one of the things I worried about because there's not a whole bunch of room to work with the engine still in the car ( f-bodies at least). Very easy to jack that o-ring up.
