if you do decide to swapumps try a melling part # m296. it will flow 15% more than a stock one and comes with a choice of two pressure spring. Sendig unit could be bad too though I doubt it just from your description. It's on the back of the block behind the intake.

These Rod throwing stories are beginning to remind me of when I had my Rx7 turbo.

Almost EVERYONE with a turbo was on their second engine by 100k.

Nah, 2 or 3 is not the same as everybody.

Still glad I have a warranty until 110k.

First- dont go out and buy a new oil pump-you will be jumping the gun by doing so.
If you think the pressure is a bit low at warm idle change your oil and put 10-40 in it with a new filter. It wont hurt a thing-its all I run here in Fl. and the pressure will go up. If you still think the pressure is low then buy a new oil pressure sending unit. Believe it or not the oil pressure sending unit can appear to be working fine with no other issues then a low reading (this happened in a z28 of mine-car was reading 35-40 psi cold and went to 5psi at warm-replaced the sending unit and pressure went up to 60 cold-50 psi warm) I think the sending unit cost $40. Its located on top of the engine way in the back and has to be replaced by feel. If that doesnt work- its prolly the oil pump. Good luck

Well they are machines and machines break-bottom line. Although the majority of ls1s have little issues there are always going to be a few that do. It does suck bad though-thats for sure!

well i dont think buying a new oil pump is jumping the gun, its a investment, you cant argue that ls1's are known for having bad oil pumps, so why not get a better designed, and flowing oil pump? i do agree with you tho about the sending unit and changing oil..but none the less.

i'd thro some 10-30 Pennzoil Platinum in there, much cheaper than mobil 1 and RP.

you might also want to autorx that baby

I just think its bad advice to tell the guy to run out and buy a oil pump without taking the logical approach to the problem-thats all. It may wind up being a oil pump issue(I doubt it though).

these cars do use oil.maybe you let the oil run dry. ive never heard of such a thing.how much oil came out with the rod . it should have made a pretty large puddle! ive had my car since new(3.5 miles) and only used mobil 1 5 w 30. start up oil psi is 60 to 65(at idle) warm 35 psi if its realy warm out like mid summer with ac on otherwise 40 psi. i belive the manual says anything over 20 is fine

In my recent upgrade I put in a Ligenfelter high volume oil pump, an oil catch can, and a new PCV valve. My pressure is up noticeably. 45 PSI at start up, 60PSI on long trips. All with PP 5-30 (winter oil).

Had just chaneged the oil about two weeks ago . Only had about 170 miles on it . I had plenty of mobil one in it as the puddle was large . This motor never used oil. It would be down maybe 1/2 quart in 3000 miles. Have had it taken apart and it broke a rod bolt. Broke the pan and the block.
