LS1/LT1 Questions
My question is how long mileage wise are the motor and transmissions usually good for? I realize that it's not usually the mileage but how well the cars been taking care of that matters but I've found a couple of LT1s that I like with around 70k on them and I've found two LS1s with a little over 100k on them. I'd like to get an LS1 mainly because it doesn't have the opti-spark system, but if the motor starts going south shortly after 100k maybe the LT's would be the best bet. Is there anything in particular I should look for when checking out an LT1/LS1? I've never owned either and was hoping you guys could give me some help picking out a reliable F-body. Thanks

Custom Slate Blue- 99 B4C
My 97 Z has 177,000. the opti-CRAP (optispark) is the worse problem I've had and it's been a hard 177,000. I know that my mileage without many problems is not typical for any car treated as bad as mine has been treated, but if you take care of them and know what you're doing when you drive them hard you can expect long life from either one. I will definitly testify to the LT1 due to my experience, and I havn't had the LS1 long enough to say anything about it. I only got an LS1 because of that damn LT1 optispark. . .

Shop around for a low mileage ls1. There are quite a few out there.
As for me...I have 93,000 miles on mine and beat the living shit out of it everyday. I've had no problems with the car except for the infamous headlight and power window motors going out.

Unfortunately with my budget all I could afford is a higher-mileage LS1, but I did find a nice 95 trans am auto with 50k miles on it for under $7k that I'm seriously considering buying.

You can pick up a decent mileage 98 z28/TA for 8 grand. Like this one

Of course the final decision is yours. I'm sure you wont be disapointed with either one.
