A small percentage of 01 and 02 LS1s actually had LS6 blocks which had a different part number and a darker metal casts. Starting 01, all LS1s came with an LS6 intake manifold without an EGR system. Advertised HP output was changed from 305hp to 310hp on base LS1s and from 320hp to 325hp on WS6s and SSs.

02 cars continued with the LS6 intake, 28 lb fuel inectors and smaller truck cam 02 continued the use of an LS6 block in some LS1 F-bodies. A factory supported optional 345HP option could be ordered from SLP Manual transmission cars continued use of the Z06 clutch

Correct. GM said they no longer needed the EGR in 2001 because the truck cam they installed in all 2001+ LS1 engines had enough overlap to allow a small amount of exhaust gas recirculation.

I can't believe the amount of wrong information on these boards! Do some research people.

Your 2002 did NOT come from the factory with EGR. It did NOT come from the factory with steel manifolds. If it has an EGR and steel manifolds then it either does not have the original engine or, someone swapped the intake with a 1998-2000 intake and swapped the manifolds with 1998-1999 manifolds.

ALL 2001-2002 LS1 Engines have the LS6 intake, cast iron exhaust manifolds, the Vortec Truck cam and LS1 heads. A FEW 2001-2002 LS1 engines have the LS6 block. NO 2001-2002 LS1 engines came with LS6 heads.

If you doubt any of this, do some research. Buy some books. Buy some SAE technical papers. E-mail GM with your questions - they will answer you.

Can you give some of your references for your facts? That would help some people find this stuff instead of chastizing them for not knowing anything.I'm not arguing here -just trying to point out that if you so desperately want people to do research help them with where to go to find the answers.Give a man a fish............

Here's a few fish for you. There is so much info out there for those who wish to look. I'm not going to spend a lot of time finding links for people. I have already done my research. The books and SAE papers will cost money though.

This is just a SMALL sample of what you can find if you look. There is nothing wrong with not knowing the facts. No One knows everything. There IS something wrong with claiming that you know something for a fact when you have no real knowledge of the subject.
If you don't know FOR SURE, then say so. Say "I think the LS1 had an EGR in 2001." and don't try to argue it when someone says that they did not, unless you truely know for a FACT that they did. This serves no purpose other than to cause flames.
