silver- 2000 Audi S4
which is it LS1 or LS6
I am pretty new to the world of LS engines. I have a 2001 SS. I have read in several places that my factory intake is an LS6 intake. Now in this months issue of HOT ROD Maagazine there is a build up article on an LS1 and it states that 2002 and up LS1s only have the LS6 intake. If anyone can help I would greatly appeciate it. Is there any way of checking without having to pull it off as I know that the bottoms are different.

2002 was the first year that the LS6 intake became standard on all LS1 engines, however some 2001 Firebirds/Camaros were lucky enough to get the LS6 package. Only way to truly know for sure would be like you already know... taking it off...

LS6 cam and exhaust manifold -
2000 was the first year for a redesigned f-body exhaust manifold, which carried over into '01 and '02. Y-body (Z06) manifolds are much different and would not likely fit a Camaro or Firebird chassis. LS6 exhaust manifolds and cam were strictly for Z06 Corvettes - one cam for '01, and a slightly revised cam for '02-'04.
LS1's did get a 6.0L cam to boost bottom-end tq starting in '01, but not the LS6 camshaft.
Hope this helps!

All 01 do NOT come with the LS6. Some did. It wasn't until 02. If your not sure if you have an LS6, call your local dealer and give them the last 8 digits of your VIN. I did, and I sure don't have an LS6 but have an LS1.
Have a Great DaY!
