ls1 gto vs ls2 gto

I currently have a 94 camaro z28 and i am sick of the LT1 A4 so i am buying a new GTO. What do you guys think is it worth spending the extra 3-5 grand for a 05 or 06 GTO with a ls2 or is a 04 just as goood

get the ls2. you get the better looking hood and rear valance and more power. you better hurry tho cuz they dont make the gto anymore and they are kinda scarce brand new

Good question and many will just say run out and spend the extra bucks for a stock LS2. They would also need to consider a few things.
04 GTO's are the best bargain in the muscle car world right now. They are a great/solid car. I can/did build a LS1 beast in my 04 GTO for under the cost difference between the 05's and the 04. Consider buying the 04...taking half the money you saved and slap a stall/heads/cam/headers and blow the doors off every LS2 you come across.

If you are going to leave the GTO stock, I would pony up and buy the LS2 version. However, the LS1 GTOs can be had for VERY reasonable prices and the sky's the limit of LSx aftermarket parts. Either way, you will be getting a solid car...

Go with the 05 with the LS2. That is like a stroker LS1 with 50 more hp that you wont have to mod into it. My .02.

Well i am probably not going to buy a new one because i am on the waiting list for a 2009 camaro, i found a 2004 GTO with 14000 miles 6 speed for 17500 i think i am going to buy that one.. i just need to sell my 94 z28 first.

I was just thinking about this the other day. The cars are rated 50HP apart. If I chose to mod my GTO I could get that 50HP pretty quick. Getting an 04 you'd be saving a bunch of money up front that you could throw at it to make it a damn site faster than an 05-06. Financially it makes a ton of sense to get the 04.
