    is this an ls engine?

    im looking for a new engine and transmission and i noticed this guy on CL selling this 4.8 Tahoe engine.
    im not a 100% sure.....if it is this gots to be a steal. just stoke it out to a 5.7 and im good right?

    the 4.8 Liter, 5.3 Liter, and 6 Liter are all based off the LS1 engine design. There called Gen 3 LS engines. Most the stuff from them will swap with an LS1 and vice versa. THe main difference in them from the LS1 is that there Iron instead of Aluminum and of course different bore and cams.

    Make sure you can bore the block out enough to make a 5.7 before buying it. By the time you pay for boring it out and new pistons and crap you will have more in it than a LS1 would cost. Best is to get a 6.0 engine.

    I'd agree. Your better off buying a 5.3 or 6.0 to begin with.

    Okay I was thinking the 6 liter was a stroked 5.3. So 4.8 Liter and 5.3 Liter are the same Bore. I was thinking for some reason the 5.3 and 6.0 were the same bore and the 4.8 was the odd child. Makes sense now that I think about it sense the LQ9 truck heads are a little larger bore than the 5.3 heads.
