    Ls-6???

Ok, I admit....I am not the world best mechanic. In fact, 99% of my engine work is done by the dealer or my tweak tech. I was talking to a buddy of mine and he was trying to convince me that some birds actually came with an LS-6 that was stroked down to a LS-1. I have never heard of this, so I pushed the bullsh!t button. He also tried to convince me that my intake was an LS-6 intake and he was certain because it was the same as his. It looks like the same black intake that most people are running in thier stock cars. Since I don't know how to prove this guy wrong, any suggestions? Or am I the dummy that doesn't know?

Ok, I'm the dummy that doesn't know. I found it under the general info. I guess he was right, I do have the LS-6 intake. And they did put the LS-6 in some cars. Now, how can I tell which motor mine has? What is the differenc in the block? Can it be restroked to be a true LS-6? How much HP would that entail? Is there a post that I haven't found yet that explains it all?

    No F-Body's got an LS6.

Some 2002 cars got an LS6 block, but with the LS1 cam and heads.
2001 and 2002 cars had the LS6 intake from the factory.

The LS6 is also not a stroked LS1. They have the same number of cubes.

Not to bash on you anymore
but what do you have a Formula or a Trans Am ?
Cause it's either one or the other.

Heres a tip look on the driver door sticker
    if it has a W66 code it's a Formula
If it has a Y82 code it's a Trans Am

not all 01 received the LS6 intake only half. All 02 received an LS6 intake and only the 02 had the possibility of receiving an LS6 block but only a handful did.

The difference in LS6 block and LS1 block is vertually nothing not even the cylinder walls had a difference worth noting HOWEVER I do believe that the LS1 block was redesigned in 99 to change it to a thicker wall which would be the same as the LS6 block...
point being that by the time the Fbodies started getting the LS6 block the LS1 block was basically identicle anyway so it doesn't matter...

Mine is a WS-9 and Y-82, but my dealer insists that it is the Formula edition with the Trans Am badging package.

I believe 15% of 01's recieved the LS-6 block and 25% of 02's recieved the block.

So they take a Formula replace the front bumper, replace the wing then its a T/A?

    But you can get a Formula V8 and a T/A V8!

Since when does a Dealer know anything
All they did is run the Vin number which doesn't distinguish between Formula or Trans Am.
All V8 equipped Birds have the WS9 RPO.
WS9 is listed as the Formula Conversion Pkg but that does not mean it's a Formula. It merely determines that the car will be V8 Equipped
W66 (Formula Merchandise Pkg) and Y82 (Trans Am Merchandise Pkg) RPO's must be present and are the only way to identify the Model.

    This is ludicrous,
The RPO list for every car is determined before the car is built so one car is not changed into another.
And the V8's are all the same in regards to 4th Gen's
