    Low oil pressure.

My 2002 Z28 A4 has been having issues lately. Last week i noticed the oil pressure just under 1/4. And after i have been driving for about 20 minutes and stop at a red light or something smoke comes out from te rear of the engine, drivers side. I need help. Rough idle aswell. Plugs and cables have been replaced 2 weeks ago. help!

How many miles? I ask as if the car has high miles and been beat on, your piston rings could be worn and allowing oil to pass by the rings and into the combustion chambers...which ISN'T good. If that is the case, you are looking at a rebuild or a replacement engine.

Could be a broken oil pressure switch which is at the back top of the engine, which could be causing an oil leak and low pressure reading. It is located behind the intake manifold. Or worn valve seals in the cylinder heads. This is minor and can be serviced by yourself if you are familiar with engines.

Keep us posted if you have anymore questions.

Agree. Kind of sounds like a leak at the sender. As to the idle issues, any chance you did not get the wires fully seated on the plugs and coils, or that a spark plug may be loose?

Had another thought after reading a recent post... any chance the PCV tube that runs along the back of the engine is deteriorated or damaged? That could result in the poor idle and oil leaking onto the back of the engine. It would not explain the oil pressure issue though.

agree with above. Check the wires for arcing, specially if you are using the OEM heat shields. i always heard about them causing issues. Yesterday I the car idle like crap. I can hear the arcing. it was #7. i tried to pull the wire out and reseat it but same results. Got rid of the heat shield and the arcing stopped.

dumb question but what is your oil level at? What does it look like? Is it just black smoke or gray? Black smoke = oil, gray smoke = coolant. Head gasket leak could also cause these issues too.
