low oil and low oil light

just purchased a 00 camaro z28 a few months ago/1500miles ago (ish) and today the low oil light came on...... checked the oil and low and behold it is way way low..... had mobil 1 put in it when i purchased it..

background on the car.... bought it from a guy where the car was sitting for a long period of time and i had the oil done immediately upon purchasing the car..

please help with any information... possible fixes/problems?

I habitually check the oil level every time I fill up. My 98 doesn't use much (at 179,xxx miles) while my 02 uses about 1 qt every 3k miles (it has only 45,xxx on it).

Best bet is to check oil level frequently.

ok so this is something that happens to alot of these cars...? is there any way to fix it?

ok from the GM dealer.... they said yes there was a bulletin out on my car saying it has an oil consumption problem... he said it could possibly be lowered by replacing the valley cover or the piston rings...

neither are things i want to hear.....

so i really do not know what to do in this situation.... i dont plan on having the car in 4 years (once i'm out of college, i will hopefully have some form of a corvette) and so idk if its worth me paying $2k+ to fix this oil problem....

any thoughts??

what do you guys do... just add oil then?

Yup, agreed both posts. My 6er is relatively low mileage too and I check it often, especially before long cruises or any descently long trips. Such as to my shop is near the 60 mi range one way
