low oil after trips

I bought this car two weeks ago,

2001 SS A4 112233 miles on it when i picked it up

i have put just over 1300 miles on it and i have taken three trips that it ran for more then a hour, Trip one 300+ miles after the trip the low oil light came on, checked the dip, added a quart. trip two 200+ miles and next day start her up low oil check dip add a quart, tonight 150+ miles half way threw the trip Low oil came on again????? the car is not dripping that i can tell. where is the oil going??

with that many miles, it is probably a compression issue, and the oil is being "blown" by the rings.

If it's not leaking anywhere, then it sounds like it's time for a rebuild.

Usually valve guides wear before rings go south. Generally around the 70k mark and above I've found excessive valve guide wear on most engines where they begin to suck a little oil. Starts to become noticable on startups and deceleration. If your car still has cats installed, you wouldn't really see any smoke however.

Only way to know for sure is to do a leak down test and see how things are doing. You could also check your PCV valve as they are known for sucking oil, but not a quart every 200 miles. That leads me to believe you have other issues.
