Looking on buying and building a daily driver, looking for
I'm looking to build a daily driver plus something I can take to the track. I've been looking into the 4th, 2nd and 1st Gen F-body's, 3rd Gen X-Body's, 1'st and 2nd Gen A-Body's and the Turbo V-6's like the Grand National and Syclone ect...
What do you guys recommend? I'm looking to make about 500rwhp. What car do you recommend and what engine/trans (I prefer manual but auto is ok) combination should I use? I'm looking for a daily driver so a car that gets 10mpg wouldn't really work.
I'm looking for ideas so I can go buy the car and then little by little start working on it. My budget for the car itself is about $5k and then about $400 a month for parts to build it up. I'm not looking to build it over night but what should I start with so I end up with something I'm happy with. I'm willing to hear everyone opinion.

The first problem you are going to have is that you live in Cali. They are very strict on how you can build cars.
As far as what to choose that will fall into your personal taste. I've seen ppl take a 2nd Gen and drop in a LS1/2/3. Keeping the classic looks while upgrading to a modern drive train. Looks real good if done right.
500 RWHP and still be able to DD is a big goal to achieve.
You can get a 4th Gen and do a H/C/I with headers and CAT Back and get well into the 450's and up with a LS1. Throw on a supper charger and your in the 500's. BUT......you will need to upgrade the rear and suspension. The biggest weakness for 4th Gens is the POS 10 bolt rear. Ppl have blown them even under stock power with slicks.
But again I say your biggest problem will be Cali's strict emission laws.
Others will chime in with more input

I have been thinking about dropping an LS eninge into a classic or make a carb 383 stroker. Then back it up with a 4LXXE transmission.
