    little weird

so i just bought a 01 ws6 with 56k on it and well while driving it i notice the oil temp gauge going from 40 to 50 when on the freeway and back down when in the city. Now to me that seems a little weird. is that somethin i should be worried about? the cars an auto. so idont know if that makes a diffrence. also to get in to park i need to pretty much slam it in to park also little weird i know my vette need that ever once in a while but wasnt sure of the trans am also did that.

A friend of mine had that problem with an 82 Firebird, and it was because the guy he got it from swapped trannies, and didnt put the right shifter cable on the new tranny. Shifter cable was either to short or to long and and it popped out of its casing (im not sure if 4th gens have this cable either) and then you couldnt get the car out of first gear. Sucked when the little bitch emissions tech decided to do a first gear stomp on to the dime, and then couldnt put it in park.

that's your oil pressure not temp so it should go up and down some with rpm's.

Did it come with the manuals? If not there are several places to download. A s stated before, that's the pressure guage, and it moves with RPM.

Yeah that gauge is your pressure gauge not temp.

Depending on mileage and if you run 10w30 it will sit alittle below or right at 40 at idle especially when cold. Around 2000rpms it would generally be right at 40 when hot at 50 or higher if real cold outside.

Sounds like it is in great shape if your at 50 cruising down the highway.
