    Lightbulb License Plate Light

The light above my license plate does not work, it was like this when I bought the car used, the bulb does not appear to be dead however.

I was recently stopped by the police for this. (lame)

I went to autozone and bought a universal one but it had only one fat wire coming out the back, instead of two thin wires like the broken one.

    "universal" my ass...

Any other ideas on how to fix?

Ps: I got a D+ in electronics class in highschool.

If it has just one wire, it's probably one that needs to go to a positive power source when the lights are on, & the body/bracket would be the ground when mounted. Not your best choice opn replacement. You can contact a number of salvage yards that can get you a direct replacement. Or even your local GM dealer.
Did you replace the bulb with a new one?
If it still doesn't work, then you need to do some wire chasin' & find the bad spot.
