knock in oil pan help!
i have a knock in my engine coming from what it seems like inside the oil pan. its coming from the front part of the oil pan ( like under cylinder one). i know
ls1s have a usual knocking noise but this one sounds like somethings wrong. it is always there and never under any condition goes away. i am planning to take down the oil pan, what do yall think it can be? what should i look at when i take it down?
thanks in advance

if your answer is" it is normal" lets just assume it is not normal and ls1s are not known to make some noise. what could it be?

If the noise is coming from the bottom end of one cylinder, then you may have a worn crank bearing. How many miles are on the car?

Look for any slivers of metal in the pan or the oil pump pickup screen. That will tell you if you will need a rebuild.

Is it a constant knock? Like a "knock-knock-knock" with every revolution?

yup constant knock all day. im not sure if it gets louder when its cold or if its just me. i replaced the lifters pushrods and rockerarm bearings and knock is still there. thats when i put my ear to the oil pan and noticed that is where the noise is coming from

If ya wanna save money you could drop the motor yourself and tear it down and replace the bearings, but you will have to either send the crank out to be machined and have the block serviced(cleaned, honed etc.) or get a low mileage motor and transfer the top end/accessories yourself.

is there anyway you can record it? Usually a knock down low like that is bad news....."usually" meaning everytime. The thing is though if you're going by listening to the pan directly with your ear there's gonna be some resonance so maybe it just sounds like it's coming from down there. Bottom end knock will also be half speed of top end knock caused by say a pushrod or lifter. See if you can get some video up and give us a better idea of where it's at and what it sounds like. I will say though that it sounds like the deck is stacked against you.

ps
taking down the oil pan isn't as simple as just taking out some bolts either because it's such a tight fit to the k-member. You'll either have to pull the engine or at least jack the engine up.
