k&n filter making my car run lean

Ok I have always had a paper filter, but two days ago I put in a k&n filter that I got from ebay. The next day my engine light came so I got it scanned and got two codes for bank 1 and bank 2 being too lean. The code will sometimes go away and then come back. Was this caused by putting in the k&n filter?

If it was over oiled and got oil on the MAF, then yes. Go clean off the maf wires delicatly with some alcohol and q-tips and see if it fixes it. It probably will

The filter was brand new so I don't know if it was over oiled.

Good possibility. Give it a shot, Even if you don't already have rubbing alcohol, it's less than a dollar to try it, and it will almost 100% pay off for you. It really should be the problem considering both banks showed up lean at the same time

The filter shouldn't make you go lean....i'd double check to make sure you reconnected you maf and iat sensor connections....then i'd clean the maf like BADD said

I think without the MAF plugged in it defaults to closed loop? It runs rich at least I know, it's a fail-safe. IAT throws a code, I forgot it on mine and it did anyways. Not trying to argue, just trying to be right

Easier/safer cleaning method than rubbing alcohol: QD residue free electronics cleaner. You get it from radio shack. That way you don't touch the sensors.

Im having the same problem. In fact I just got it back from the shop which they said it has something to do with my O2 sensors. The light went off by the time I dropped it off to the shop and didnt go back on until I left the shop. They said the code is still in the system and the computer is monitoring the code. Im taking it back to the shop and hopefully theyll find something.
