Just bought 2000 Z28 A4 84k looking for Mod Advice
Hey everyone I'm new to this site, My name is Bryan I live just outside of Boston! i purchase a 2000 Z28 with 84k A4 for $5000 cash stole it! I'm looking for some help with modification advice etc... I have already done most of the free mods egr, throttle bypass, slp cold air, cat back. What should i do next>??? the car has 2.73 gears which suck!!! i was also thinking of a programmer Diablo hypertech or custom tume etc... LS6 intake maybe over the winter, does porting the stock throttle body or MAF do anything or should i buy a larger one? please give me any advice to what mods in order would be best. thanks for the help!!! Bryan feel free to send me a message if you live in the area also

My thoughts... Lower it, and get a TC. Then cam it (dyno tune) and 3.73s.

Good job with the free mods, Bryan. And welcome to the site. Congrats on stealing that Z28, too. You are on the right track. I would avoid MAF sensors or Throttle Bodies for now, low HP/dollar return. Do not modify your factory MAF, I made the same mistake and ended up buying a new OEM MAF. I would recommend you focus on the gears and tranny right now. Go with a 3.73 and upgrade to a higher stall converter. While you are in there, run an additional cooler, as Orcus79 suggested. I've seen A4 guys pick up a half second on the track with gears and stall. No more power, but better use of what you already have. Since you're changing gears, you will need either a custom tune or a programmer. Diablo makes a great one for a hand held. THe best for you is a custom tune, however, that can be difficult unless you have the convenience of a good LSX guy with a Dyno close to where you live. If you haven't done headers, LS1 engines like long tubes, as well. Happy modding, and don't forget, spending money saves the economy.

Get a stall, cooler, Long tubes, ls6 intake, custom tune, subframe connectors, a 12 bolt(dont waste money on the stock rear end) and that should help a bit

pacesetters are great, also look at the for sale section here and on ls1 tech for a used set, you can usually get a pretty damn good deal. get some gears to go with it and you can look at low 13's high 12's-tune of course get a custom tune.

Yeah that's about where i'm lookin to be. i want a reliable street car that will hit the high 12's. I'm planning on 3.73 gears this winter and also a ls6 intake and maybe some suspension equ to put power to the ground and my first tune come spring. Did you change you Diff when you did your gears and is it advisible. also suspension mods Im planning on subframe connectors i have T-tops what about lower trailing arms, adjustable pan hard rod and torque arm ??? are they worth it??? Thanks for all the help

worth it
You shouldn't need to change the differential itself, just the gears. Add a girdle though to help give strength and the ease of a drain plug.
Plan out your work, don't get too excited that you take on or spend too much. Once I got a TC, I had trouble keeping the rear planted. A lot of wheel hop and terrible 60 ft. LCAs, PHR and torque arm fixed that nicely.

Thanks for the advice. I agree , I want to get the power to the ground, what good is it if you don't! what brand of torque arm and panhard rods etc... would you recomended

There's a lot out there and I did the research years ago, that's part of the fun! There is much more now than 6 years ago.
I got boxed LCAs with the welded on relocation brkts. They really really helped. I bought Hotchkis for LCAs and PHR. Torque arm is BMR adjustable. Look around and see what you want to spend where. Unless you really plan huge hp, anything you get will be a huge gain over stock.
