    ive got a small problem

k, i have a 2000 6 speed ws6, i got on it through first, second and third....obv. never redlining it. right after that, the "service engine soon" light came on. I plan on taking it to auto zone or o'rielys but does any one know why that may have happened? i just got the car, it is bone stock. thanks a lot. (could it possibly be an O2 sensor?)

When my cat was going out, it woud set off a code after running hard and playing in traffic, so yes, it's possible something is wrong in the emissions dept.
But it's also possible that it's something as trivial as the gas cap not being on correctly too.
The only sure way to tell is to pull the code.

Good luck, let us know what you find.

If the check engine light ever comes on just take it to Auto Zone. I dont know about all auto zones's but around illinois a check on the light is free so why not! We dont have o'rielys so dont know about them.

i thought the loosened gas cap was more of an import code.
i never came in contact with an fbody that threw that kinda code.
oh well learn something new every day?

import code?? wtf is that...haha But yea when you have a bad gas cap the tank isn't as pressurized so it could throw a code. When I had my car smoged the dude said mine was bad but it never threw a code for it.....go figure. It was probably just a money making gimmick cause he opened this shelf and it had a few hundred caps in there

alright, so i went to autozone, the computer gave him the code P1416, and it said emission controls. the guy said i would have to go to the dealership to figure it out because it didnt tell us anything specific. does anyone know what that code means? thanks!

sounds like the air check valve, passenger side. It's part of your AIR system...make sure it isn't stuck. Their like 25 bucks, i'd replace both sides if i were you. The ACV is inbetween the end of the metal tube coming from your exhaust manifolds and the rubber hose above the intake manifold. Looks like a black plastic piece...kinda

It's a very easy install so just do it yourself if you have basic hand tools

haha i meant i usually only see the gas cap loose code on imported vehicles. (or maybe its the stupid people driving it who dont tighten the gas cap) haha after i read what i wrote i thought haha that sounded stupid!
