    It's too loud!!!! Help!!!!

OK, here is my setup. Pacesetter LT's, ORY, magnaflow muffler, MTI 224/226 Cam, LS6 intake, Patriot stage 2 heads, 3200 stall. I am in need of a tune. It goes in for a dyno tune in a couple of weeks. When it's in park or neutral when I rev it, it sounds good. In drive above 2000 rpm it is so loud and raspy and resonates so bad I don't even want to drive it. It's embarrasing. I have heard from other people that say they have about the same setup and they say there's isn't bad. Could it be the tune? I may need new O2 sensors could that have anything to do with it? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do these folks you have met have catalytic converters? They quiet the noise a little. Once you get the tune, the car MIGHT quiet down a little as one of the items to be adjusted will be the idle. Might need to be raised or lowered depending on what needs to be done. If all else fails, get a pair of cats or resonator pipes and have them welded to the Y.

+1 The Kooks cats on our car take out any rasp and the sound is just right. Other components are Kook's 1-7/8" LT's and a Magnaflow catback. I added a DMH cutout and can run it wide open through town without any issues. It is only when you get into it that things get loud. I think you are the first one on here that I have heard call the Magnaflow "raspy".

The people that I said that have the same set up are not running cats either. This part is wierd. When I manually shift it the sound is not as bad. Can't understand that one. It is the worst between 2000-2500 under acceleration while the car is in drive. I'm scratching my head here.

Yup. Sounds like you need a tune. PM Frost for advice. Once the car is tuned, the revs might not climb as much between shifts.

Any chance you have a heat shield resonating under the car? I had a noise after installing our catback and tracked it down to the heatshield in the rear axle cavity.

A tune might help but with headers, heads and a cam you are probably going want to get cats in there. I would install them before you get it tuned so the tune will include the cats. You need to really like loud with that set up and no cats.

If a Magnaflow catback is too loud....

Maybe it is time for a Lexus/BMW/Benz.

Cats help-it did on mine, sound deadening would be a good idea. I just can't imagine the magnaflow being unbearably loud at 2000rpm.

Believe me, this is not just your average deep sound from an exhaust system. I have had everyone that has heard this say that it is super loud and it doesn't sound good.

Have you checked for exhaust leaks?

Yes, I looked for leaks. If it doesn't smooth out after the dyno tune I think I'll probably try a bullet before the muffler. If other guys are saying they have almost the same setup as me without it resonating then there must be something about my exact setup that is causing it.

Magnaflow isn't the loudest muffler, but it definitely has rasp when used without cats. I had it before and it was very raspy and now I have an slp dual/dual and it is much better without cats.

Either have a resonator pipe welded into the pipe after the ORY or have spun cats welded into the ORY. You should be good either way.

Get you a Hooker catback. I can cruise down the interstate at 2200-2500rpm (65-75mph) with the windows down and still enjoy my stereo. I do run a DMH when it gets too quiet though.

With my Kooks LT's, Kook Y, no cats, and SLP LMII, I have the same obnoxious loud sound around 2500 RPM. I use it to scare the shit out of people walking on the side of the street
