    It's alternator time!

Alright, so in about an hour I'm gonna start putting my new alt. in. I've already got it prepped (intake/belt off, car lifted, etc.).

But, before I do it, are there any important tips I should know, or things I should watch out for?

It seems pretty simple, unbolt the rear mounting bracket, then the front bolts, then drop it a tiny bit and pull/unbolt the two cables, right?

    Thanks much,

    Ryan

    Well, ok.

I just did it by myself.

Only had one problem: I stripped that little bolt that holds the wire to the back of the alternator.

So I just cut the wire and am going to a hardware store tommorrow to find a replacement eye loop and crimp it back on.

I'd say that's not too bad for a noob to LS1's?

Yeah, once I got the eye loop (.75 at NAPA) it crimped right on and the alternator wen back pretty easy with a little effort.

But I think I moved one of the wiring harnesses or something because now when I turn on the lights the digital odometer and the clock on the radio turn off.

It's weird because everything else works fine, battery is at like 15 now, and the odometer and radio work fine with the lights off, just not when they're on.

I'm assuming I moved one of the wires into a weird spot causing a short, so I think I'll start tracing it back from the lights...

Hmm 15 volts is a lil high. Make sure your wires are tight on the alt and the wire you crimped is good and tight.

That is slightly high - but anything between 13 and 16 volts is generally considered acceptable.

Well I think it was just residual charge from when I charged the battery because it's now at either 13 or 14.

Oh and I apparently am retarded because the reason the odometer was off was because I had the dash light scroll wheel turned down to zero to conserve battery.

    Yeah.....whoops.
