installing a new fuel pump
Hey everyone
well i have everything in the FSU in place..but when i go to reinstall it in the tank i cant...the bottom hits the tank and it wont seat correctly...is there any secret to reinstalling the FSU ? i already tore up my seal ..so i am thinking i will need a new one.

sounds like you might not have the sock end of the FSU correctly seated back in the tank, thus not allowing you to set it correctly. i used a coat hanger to pinch the unit while installing until i felt it go in like it should.
it was a bitch even with pulling the tank. as for doing it through the access hole, i cant tell ya!

i need to find a way to be able to bend the fsu once it is mostly in....
i want to know why GM made the unit so damn long and angled..why they wouldnt make it a small little unit that would be easy to install.

it's spring loaded.....just keep pushing it until it goes down and then you'll have to hold it down while you get the retainer started. Real bitch to get that all started by yourself but I done it....on a few pumps. Hammer and screwdriver are your friends.

just put it in at an angle and then push the spring down until it gets below the seal. N/M on the screwdriver part....that's how I get the retainer out. You can just tap it in to install it.

keep after it....you'll get it figured out. You're putting it in to where the sock is all the way towards the back of the tank right?

got it....the 98s tanks have a section at the bottom that is like a box with a cut out the shape of a half circle. The pump was hitting on it...once i figured that out..i put the pump in at a different angle. This didn't work though because my fuel tube and the regulator tube was in the way. I took two zip ties and tucked them tighter for improved clearance (racetronix did not tell me that) after i did that..i was able to get it seated and get the retainer nuts on besides the last one..needed levi's help with the hammer to get it.
the car runs good and without the cover on...i can hear the pump really flowing ..pretty loud...but she runs good

bout damn time shady I take it you were doing it through a hole? That was half your problem....easier to work on them laid out on the floor in front of you. Glad you got it back together.
