I think i have a bent pushrod!
My car has 98,000 on it and the other day it started making a tapping noise from the engine. I had run it pretty hard the day before but never went above 6000 rpm. I think it may be a bent push rod. Am I still able to drive the car or do I have to park it? and how much does that impact performance? Thanks.

Definatley dotn drive it, its most likely something in the valvetrain, cracked valve spring is a possiblilty.

tried for a video but the noise was too faint to hear, pretty sure i bent only one, i drove it the other day and the car drives fine, no loss of power or anything, no check engine light, just that annoying little tick tick tick

Just need to add my $.02 here
I drove on 3 bent pushrods for over 3 yrs manly because the tick is so faint that you barely notice it. One finally broke and that was when I found the other bent ones. I also drove on that broke one for a month till Iwas able to swap them out.
BTW mine were bent because of a blown shift meaning the engine went above 7000 for an instant and floated the valves.
After swapping then out I have had zero issues and that was almost 5 years ago and 40k miles.Craig

thanks 9t8w66 i have wondered about that. i have to drive it today, and i was worried that i might ruin the engine ( i just bought my car and i would prob cry if that happened lol ) but the ticking is from one cylinder is i cant even capture the sound on a video. I also missed a shift, from 3rd to 2nd going about 80-85 mph.... scared the heck out of me! i plan on fixing them 2marrow.

Check if your oil pressure is low or normal.
If it is constantly running low, you have a bad lifter.
A bad lifter will produce a ticking noise which accelerates with trottle, a rod would produce a louder banging noise.

Sorry dont mean to hijack the thread but I have pretty much the same question. Yesterday I let my friend drive my car...(Alex if you read this it was joel) Anyway its an auto, he dropped it to first at 30 and got on it he hit the rev limiter like twice before he let off cuz he didnt know that you have to shift it when the shifters on 1??????? Anyway the car doesnt make any abnormal noises besides piston slap after the first 15min I used a stethiscope and couldnt hear anything abnormal in the valve covers. I think I'm good/hope. Is a bent pushrod loud when the engines hot too

Hitting the rev limiter with an automatic is not going to float the valves (unless the springs are real bad and it floats below 6000 rpm).

That's a relatively easy job, isnt it? Just remove the valve covers and take off the rockers with (hex socket, can't remember what size?) and the pushrods come right out?
