Depending on the cam it should be enough
The gears wont really help for horsepower but it'll pull better
Are you an A4 or M6?

tsp 228 from texas speed call them tell them what you want, if they can't answer all your questions then no one can.

Depending on the dyno your using will also mean hitting the 400whp mark or not, how the dyno is programmed and calibrated by the shop effect numbers. But dyno numbers are just tuning tools, what you should really be shooting for is a certain trap speed or E.T. IMO 120mph is a decent trap speed for a cammed ls1 car at full weight.

Yeah, heard lots of good things on the 228.
Also wanted to let you know if you have a six speed then 4.10 would be a much better rear gear for you. 3.73s are better for autos.
You'll notice a difference, but if you want the best pull, go 4.10s.

yup its got to be a mid size cam. anything over 228.
torquer 2 would put you over 400 with full boltons and no cats.
I'm looking into the Ms3 or Ms4 cam from texas speed. it a lil bigger.
a friend of mine put down 435 with a ms3,lts,Off road Y,loud mouth exhaust,fast 90/90,underdrive pully,lid and tune.

What is the goal? Just 400+ HP? You say it's your DD. You need torque under the curve that some high hp cams destroy.
I would begin with some good 1 3/4" long tube headers and find a used SLP Dual/Dual cat back. I only see 6 RWHP difference between closed exhaust through the Dual/Dual and open cutouts. Next up would be an air lid. You looking for good 1/4 mile times? Start on the shocks/suspension/Drag radials.
You do a cam & you also need valve springs & pushrods & you need someone who knows how to get the correct length pushrod for the proper lifter preload.
Good luck!

I would do gears 1st. I have 4.10 gears and I trap @ 121 @ 6450 RPMs (and I'm not just cam & bolt ons). If you concentrate on torque rather than just a peak HP#, you can push it down the track fine with 3.73 gears. If I had it to do over, I'd get 3.90s or maybe 3.73s.
Headers and would be step #2 in my opinion, then intake and cam/springs last. When it's time for a cam, you can have one custom designed for just a few dollars more than off the shelf.Last edited by KP1; 10-11-2009 at 05:49 PM.

You're not getting a mild cam if you want 400hp at the wheels. When you decide to go big I have some worked 5.3's
