If it looks like an SS.....doesn't really matter much past that.

But if you think maybe you bought a Z28 that has been 'converted' check the RPO codes on the driver door.
I believe SS has its own code...although I don't know what it is.

measure the front sway bar? SS is 32mm and z28 is 30mm.

Common Luos, you know better than that. I guess it had no bearing on your decision when buying your WS6 instead of a T/A eh???
Could have just bought a T/A that looks like a WS6

Like Mike said, without having the factory driver door sticker to look for the WU8 code, you are stuck with measuring sway bars, looking for a power steering cooler (although that's not concrete, some Z's also got it)
I also believe the SS's had different shocks to go with that handling package that were orange in color (both of mine do).
Of course 17 inch wheels were also specific, but those are easily changed. Real SS 2 piece rear spoilers are getting hard to come buy. Check if it's an aftermarket repop. Check the hood for the part number and "made in canada" insignia on the bottom.
Chances are, anyone faking an SS won't go through the extra trouble and expense to use real parts, and more than likely buy aftermarket junk.

Only other last ditch effort without door codes is to call SLP with your serial number, they might have records of it and will tell you over the phone which number car it is.

couldn't you have the VIN ran to determine if it's real or not

True a GM dealer should be able to run your vin and tell you since that's how I get paint codes on cars missing stickers. Also it own't much trouble to tape the sticker how lazy are some of these painters. You should never paint those even on a color change..

I personally have never tried to verify a 4th gen SS through a vin but it might be possible.
I've used the vin at the dealer to check for any warranty work throughout the history of the car on several real SS's. Although I didn't ask, it was never mentioned at the dealer that we were talking about an SS, so I don't know if they can tell or not. At the time I already knew (WU8 code in the door) so it wasn't a concern.
Maybe you can do it that way though

    2002 Z28 A4 NBM
    Sadly now demodded :(

    To the OP:

The 35th Anniversary plate on the dash above the radio is on every 2002 Camaro made.

To be a true 35th Aniversary car it would have to be an SS LE. SS LE's had special paint, decals and interior. Check around the site and you'll see what I mean as several members have them.

The dealer can tell you what all your car came with if you let them run the VIN.
