how do i sell my TA and make sure i get paid?

i'm selling my TA to a guy in Quebec and he said he could pay with a certified check but how do i make sure that check is good before he takes the car back to Canada with him? i plan to take him right to my bank and do the transaction there anyway but will my bank be able to make sure everything is good???

Your bank will verify the check with his bank via telephone.

good luck a lot of scams out there I would not do the title until i have the cash the can do a wire transfer from his back to yours if he has the money

I would do some checking on that! Scammers try to screw people out of stuff all of the time! Be CAREFULL! Talk to your bank, do some reading on the net! Good Luck!

if you can do a wire transfer bank to bank,get cash,money orders and certified checks can be deposited into your account then after a few days your bank calls you to tell the the checks or orders were scams,you r responsible for it.Good luck we're not all bad

I would wait 10 to 14 days maybe longer, before I handed the car over to the guy. Gotta make sure the Check Clears. If not you are out the money and the car.

As stated, bank/certified checks are NOT cash. They have to clear especially from an out of country account. Cash is instant and money wire transfers not bank checks unless both parties don't mind waiting. I've sold a few cars long distance before.

frisco88 got it right. just because it seems good to your bank at the time doesnt mean they find something wrong in a few days and then they come to you for the money. they bank is getting there money and they will get it from you and then you have to deal with the buyer which could be impossible to track. i just sold a car about a month ago and the buyer wanted to give me a personal check and i said no. they had there bank call me and told me they had 75k in the bank but i still didnt take it because they could have got up the road and canceled the check. so i only deal in cash now.
