If it's done correctly the security light will come on when the car is started then go off like all the other dash lights.
If you've done the bypass and the security light is still coming on then you need to check your connections and make sure their secure.

Thanks so much for the post! Car has been a paperweight for two weeks. Got some resistors today and had it up and running in 30 minutes! I have absolutely no skills in working with cars so I was actually shocked when I turned the key and it worked!

Hey guys i know that i might be bringing this thread back from the dead but I just measured both my keys and they ended up coming out to 1.86.....is there a resistor that specifically comes in this degree? and if so can I get a link to where I can buy one?

you want to get resistors that add up to 1870 ohms ( nominal for that pellet). Radio shack is the only place I know to get them or you can just google resistors I'm sure and find them that way. Get gold band ( 1% tolerance) resistors.

thanks orion for the quick responce one more question.....one key reads 1863 and one read 1854......which key do i use? and does it have to fully equal up to the number or round up or down

it's a range.....1870 (or 1.87 depending on what your meter is set to) is the middle ground and the number you want to shoot for. The range is 1795-1965. Like I say though, you want it as close to 1870 as possible and use gold resistors. I think I explained the variance in this thread somewhere but I'm too tired to search back through it right now.

it could be an intermittent open. Did you measure the resistance while you cycled the key? As you cycle it, it could go open.

I did and it didn't change.. The fuel pump primes and everything acts normal until u turn the key all the way then.... nothing. GRRRRR Is there some way other than the key that could be telling the system to show security.

Worked great for me! Not sure if anyone else has said this, but your resistor pack does not have to add up to the exact value as your key as long as its within 2 percent. My key read 1.31 and my resistor pack read 1.35 on the 20k ohm setting and it worked perfect. Just thought I would add before you try to kill yourself getting the perfect match.

I also called the dealership before I did this and they said there is no way to bypass this problem without installing a new ignition switch....lol

Here's what happened to me today.
This morning when i started my 2000 TA the Security light stayed on. I drove to work, the car drove normally. Drove the car back home and the Security light was still on. I tried my spare key but the light was still on. I disconnected the vats connector and measured the resistance (with the key in) on the side with the 2 white wires, i got nothing. So i did the bypass but the light was still on. I unplugged the vats connector and tried to start the car and it started anyway, wtf ? I connected it back up started it and the light was still on. I left the car running for a few minutes and all of the sudden the light went out. I left it running for 15 minutes, shut it off then started it again and the light goes out
    Thanks for the write-up !

Do you have another key ? Does that one vary too ? Or maybe there is something wrong with your meter. Worst case scenario is you have to try all 15 resisters and which one it is.

Are your fingers touching the leads while you are measuring? If so, then you are probably part of the measurement.
