How annoying is the skip shift feature? Opinions..

I'm going to test drive a 2000 Trans Am WS6 tomorrow and if all goes well its mine, and I was just wondering how annoying the skip shift feature is. I've read about it and heard it can get old fast...anyways, I found a Skip Shift Eliminator from the WS6store website for under twenty bucks, and I was just wondering if I should pick it up.

It might already be disabled, lots of people do it. If not and it bugs you it can be turned off with the eliminator, tuning or with a buck resistor from radio shack. See www.installuniversity.com and look for !CAGS.

I did mine with the resistor mod way back in `99
No problems since and it's easy to do.

Awesome, I just read up on both ways to do it and I think I'll give it a shot. Sounds simple enough. Thanks for your time guys

yea thats the way everyones is. The skip shift elimination just disables the mechanical part of the skip shift is doesn't turn off the light. The only way to that i would think would be to unplug the bulb.

All of the eliminator mods disable the system yet keep the curcuit active so the computer doesn't throw a SES code. Other wise you could just unplug the skip shift connection at the trans.

Same here. Its basically just suggesting that you could shift to 4th to save fuel, instead of just plain forcing you to do it

Like the other guys said, the mod disables the solenoid that activates the skipshift, not the program in the ECU itself. The computer doesn't know it isn't really working

One of the worst ideas GM ever had IMO, when I get six speed, that will be one of the first things modded.

Can someone explain this option a little more i have seen it in my car usually when going through town (very small town cops already follow me from previous vehicles dont need the trouble) i still shift it into 3rd as i easy out of town. how does it force you to put it in 4th????

it closes the gate to 2nd gear and when you try to shift to second your slip into 4th... most of the time that i would have hit it i just shifted to 3rd anyway...
