High Pitched Noise
My car is making a high pitched noise well after start up. It makes the noise when it first starts up but then shuts off. 5-10 minutes down the street I hear it make the same high pitched noise and my lights dim down or almost shut off then it kicks off again a few seconds later. Anyone know what cause this? Any helped appreciated.

I will try and get a sound clip of it today and post it up in the afternoon. Cause it makes the noise on start up for a few seconds and goes away. It has always made the noise as long as my mom owned the car. It used to only do it on cold start ups. I haven't driven the car for a long distance and then got and cut it off then started it up later and drive it again. I just use the TA to get back and fourth to work right now. It is only a 4 mile drive one way then it sits for 9 hours and then drive it back home and stays parked all day while I sleep.

Is it making a whining sound or like a high pitched sound?....The air pump does make a high pitched sound when u first start ur car, and then it goes away, but I can't see it making ur lights go real dim

It makes mine dimmer. Not really dim. and when you rev mine kicks off and then kicks on again randomly. I say this is the noise since its a 98. Its loud enough to make people think that i have a maggie under the hood.

It sounds like the A.I.R. pump. It's inside the L/F fender, in front of the wheel. It's normal.

Check your vac lines going to your throttle body if there collapsed or have a hole/dry rotted it will make a high pitch noise and that would lower your RPM's down enough to causing the alternator not to produce enough amps .... making your lights dim
