High mileage oil
Newbie here.
Just got this LS1 TA, 154000 miles.
Looks like previous owner was using Castrol Edge 10W 30. I am in FL.
Gauge reads eratic 15-
25 psi at idle when hot. Never goes above 40, should I be worried about that?
Browsed here and saw a lot of stuff, including Amsoil flush. This is basically a stock WS6 package. Do you think this would be a useful thing to do or a waste of money.
What is the best way to try and keep this old girl humming along?
Thanks in advance

I would first carefully pull the OPSU and see if it has any cracks. Hell for the $45 I'd just go ahead and replace it just because of age.

First question that I have is when the oil psi is fluctuating in idle:
1) Is the idle rpm changing?
2) Is the AC compressor on (for A/C or or defrost)?
3) Is there a reason as to why the previous owner was using 10w30 and not the recommended 5w30?
4)What is the PSI showing at idle when cold?
I don’t think it’s a good idea to do an oil flush, until you have a better grasp as to why the oil pressure is fluctuating, it could be a bad oil sending unit (might be gunked up, or a connector is slightly loose), could be a oil pump problem; while a flush could loosen gunk up, it could also loosen gunk that may be keeping oil seals from spewing.

Thanks for that.
I went ahead and changed the oil with 10w 30 Castrol High Mileage Syn and now my reading 45-50 cold and 25 -30 hot so I feel a lot better. Since I just got it I wanted to change the oil even though it looked new.
I did order a sending unit thinking I would change it anyway, but it looks like you have to pull the intake manifold? If that is the case I think I will skip that, looks like I am good now anyway.
Thanks for the replies.

You can do it without pulling the intake but it is PITA. Spend the $10 on the socket for it, makes it easy to remove. It's a PITA cause you are doing it blind and kinda tight in the area.

Go buy a telescoping mirror at the parts store so you can get a good look at what is going on back there. You need to be careful not to snap the new sender off when you install it and to also check for leaks once you get it all back together.
