HID's flickered out

I was at my parents tonight, and when I was leaving my mom came out to talk for a minute in the driveway. I had the key turned, but the car was off, and out of habit i turned on my HID fog lights. They were on for about a minute or 2, then my mom asked why my lights were acting crazy. As I looked up they were flickering, then went out. Now they won't come on, and neither will the gauge lights. Headlights still go up/down and on/off, gauges work, but the backlights on the gauge cluster are off.

I already checked the fuses for headlights, accessories, fog lights, gauges. all in good shape.

any ideas? thanks
