Help, Uh Oh, Sec Lght On Can't Start Car

Well, I just pulled my A4 original steering column, the entire unit. I put in a steering column from a M6. I have every thing hooked up minus the steering wheel radio controls. I can turn on the radiothe door chime works, work the hazards, keyless entry, etc. The security light is on, solid. When I turn the ignition to start nothing happens.

The steering column I have in there came with one key. What could be wrong? Isn't the VATS module in the steering column? Is the vats control module some where esle? I thought it was inside the steering column.

Am I going to have to figure out how to switch locks?

    thanks

Don't think it's in the column - BCM. I'd bypass VATS with the resistance of the key from the A4 column. If they're the same resistance the wires on the donor column could be bad at the switch. 15 different values, so most likely keys are different - if you want to keep VATS a dealer can reprogram the car for the new key.

well i am now a lock smith. I pulled the two columns apart and swapped lock cylinders. Man that was scary for a minute. And it seems every job wouldn't be complete without a couple of specialty tools. Thank God the parts stores let you borrow / rent specialty tools

BTW I almost bypassed the VATS but it was way too tempting just to do a good job by swapping locks.

    crisis averted.

Good job, something I would've just taken the easy way out on and bypassed it.
