help with stock lid

So I don't remember when I saw it, but somebody in here posted a link to directions on hacker-chopping a stock air intake to provide better flow.
problem is I can't remember what post it was in, and I didn't bookmark the site.
Can anyone provide the link? or remind me which thread it was in...or tell me to stop being cheap and buy an slp lid.
And, are there any other little tricks I can do that will cost little to nothing?
