    help with my ls1

    when ever i cold start the car there is a knocking on my passenger side. it has been happening ever since i bought the car.the knock seems to go away after driving it a few feet, then everything sounds fine in the car. please help!!! thanks everyone.

    Does this happen only when its cold outside? Does it go away after the motor is warmed up? Its most likley piston salp. Its very common in our cars, mine did it all the time when it was cold outside.

    Agree. Sounds like piston slap. Always a good idea to warm our engines up a bit before driving them. The pistons have short skirts and with the different expansion rates of the metals in the engine they just need some heat in them to quiet down.

    Mine does the same thing as well. I have to 2 freinds with LS1's that also have the same condition and none of have performace issues.

    I'd only be concerned if the knock get really loud and/or knocks after it has warmed up.

    thanks everyone. it must be piston slap cause it stops when it gets warmed up. but is it ok to drive it right away or should i let it warm up?

    Yepp its normal, alum engine when it warms up everything fits tight and snug and the internals are happier, its still fine to drive as soon as you start it, Personaly i wouldnt redline it until it gets to Op. Temp.
