Help, fuel pump
Hey i think i might be losing my fuel pump. I was driving today and it started this wining sound that seems to be coming from behind me. At first i thought it might be my speakers but it stops as soon as i turn off my motor and the radio is still going. Any ideas? Also how long do you think i have before it stops all the way.

Turn the radio off by pulling the fuses for the head unit and the amp and make sure you still hear it before you tear in to it.

Change the fuel filter and get a pressure guage. Rule out what you can before spend money on it.

I agree.
I thought my fuel pump was going out about a month ago. Car felt sluggish sometimes and would "hiccup" or hesitate before reacting and accelerating if I were to punch it while cruising at a steady speed. Didn't do it everytime though. Enough to piss me off.
I put in a new fuel filter and haven't had any problems since. I lucked out, seeing that it went away after I put a new fuel filter on. I'm glad to, I was not to thrilled about spending a couple hundred bucks on a fuel pump and then having my mechanic put it in. $15 sure beats the hell out of $250+for parts and labor.
Good luck with finding the problem and hopefully it's just a clogged/dirty fuel filter.

you're hearing the bearings in the fuel pump. PM Sarge and ask him what additive he recommended to help quieten those down. I forget off the top of my head which one he recommends or I'll point him to this thread. Mine did the same thing as yours....it was still doing it 2 years later when I put in the racetronix kit so it'll last a while most likely. Mine would usually only do it when it got hot, if yours is doing it cold then you may not get the 2 years out of it I did. Use Sarge's recommendation for the additive and try that first before you swap the pump.
