    Help with check engine light.

My check engine light came on tonight for the 1st time ever. It was running fine and all guages read normal. What might be the problem? It is a 2002 Z28 with 45,000 miles on it. Any ideas and can I drive it safely over the week end till I can get it to the dealer? The car is stock. Thanks!

    P.S.
I recently(3 weeks ago) changed oil from a 5w30 to a 5w40. Could this have caused the check engine light?

Check engine light could be anything, if it nothing obvious, you should be safe ti drive it over the week end. Just pay more attentoin to the gauges and fluids til you can get it checked out.

Autozone and most other parts stores will scan your car for free and are open on the weekends. Don't waste the money at a dealership. Get the car scanned and then post the code back up here and we'll help you with it.

It could be that your cats are bad, Federal recall on them , Dealer replaced mine at 85,000 miles. Call the dealer, give em your vin # . They will let you know. I got a letter in the mail 2 weeks after the cat failed.

Thank guys!!! I pulled the code at Checker and it came up P1415. Something to do with the air injection system the guy said? What might this be?

I would replace the check valve on the drivers side exhaust manifold. It's #30 in the diagram. I think it's ~$20. I can dig up the part number if needed.

I had P1416 and just replaced the passenger side - usually the dealer will replace both check valves.
