    Help battery problem

Popped the hood this morning and checked the voltage at the battery. I had a little over 12 volts. Seeing as it has been sitting for about 2 weeks I'm pretty sure I don't have a draw. Out of curiosity I tried to start it but same thing. Get a click and all gauges bottom out. Tried several more times and it started. Let it run for about 10 seconds and killed it. Tried to start and same thing, took several tries. Let it run and checked voltage while it was running and had almost 15 volts. Killed it and next time started on first try. I'm thinking starter. What do you guys think? BTW no security light and vats was bypassed over a year ago.

yeah....sounds like a starter problem to me if there's no loose or corroded wires.

everything at the battery looks good. I'll look over the starter before I take it off.

Well that was a pita. Finally got the starter off. All the connections looked good except the little wire. The nuts were really rusted on it. But I could see shiny metal when I took it apart. I'm not going to risk cleaning it, putting it back together and still messing up. I'm going to go ahead and replace it.

check that wire really good though and make sure it's not corroded....that will cause the issue you're having. Pour some coke on it and scrub the shit out of it with a wire brush or even a tooth brush and that'll get most of that corrosion off there. Throw the tooth brush away when you're done. Or toss it in a drawer in the garage......a beat up tooth brush comes in pretty handy really.

Changed the starter out over the weekend. The new starter is made for a short and a long bolt. The old starter took 2 long bolts. Got it put on with the right bolts after a couple of trips to the parts store. I decided to test it before I lowered the car back down. Hit the key and it started right up, but there was this awful rattling sound. I killed it as soon as it started. Then I remember the back. My driveway slopes down hill to the garage. I had the back tires right where it levels off. Which meant by the time I jacked the front end up the tail pipes were a fraction of an inch from the ground. Just enough that while running they were hitting the concrete. No other problems since then.

That is kind of funny - but I bet you had a moment of pure stress when you heard the noise. Glad you got her fixed.

Yeah nothing like starting your car and hearing metal bouncing around. It was louder than you would expect. Guess the whole exhaust was echoing.

That's what I would call a "pucker" moment.
