Help adding steering wheel w/ radio controls?
I'm posting here to try and attract more viewers.
I recently replaced my 99 A4 steering column and wheel with a M6 steering wheel and column from an 02 that has the steering wheel radio controls.
I put every back together and noticed I could not find a place to plug the grey steering wheel radio control wire under the dash? If my camaro didn't have the this option am I hosed or just blind?
BTW it doesn't seem as if the steering column has anything to do with this. The radio controls are fed by an extra wire set, grey, tha just runs the column with the rest of the pretty colors. I just wish I could figure out were it plugs in under the dash
thanks

What voltage is the gray wire? Is it normally open or closed?

dunno, how do I get voltage with no source, that is the question.
Sarge, I have a plug from the steering wheel, multiple wires in grey plastic sheeth (sp ?). I'm looking for the other end, the side that would provide power and possible the end route to the radio.
does any of that make sense?
picture a line running from behind the air bag down the column to empty air, it needs to find a home...
I still have this bad feeling I am screwed.

have you pulled the radio to make sure there is a plug for the controls yet?

You are going to need to marry each wire with its corresponding wire....make a custom harness....because that is exactly what you are doing...a custom harness...

I figured that.
Any one know the easiest way to pull the radio?
I figure I can match the wires from the radio to the plug by making a custom set of wires.
Any one know what the pin outs are on the radio harness?

Yank the trim piece off that is around the radio & AC controls.....pull the switches that may be attached & you'll see two bolts holding it in.
Should take you five minutes including getting the nutdriver

It may be easier for you to find a radio from a 02 and switch it out. Or at least switch harnesses. Just an idea.

I think you may be right champ.....I'll dig around & see if I can find some info
Had my radio out today....I have controls in my wheel.....I do have a plug in that hole of five
Here's a pic of he big plug
Can't find a pic of the bottom 5
I would suggest clipping one from a salvage yard car & trying a splice into it from your plug on the column.....I'll keep looking fo more info thoughLast edited by rbob93; 12-23-2007 at 06:43 PM.

thanks, I appreciate it.
Unfortunately my salvage yards never have f-bodies in them, wierd. They are very hot items and rare to come by. In the morning I'm going to stare at it for awhile and see if there is a way to pop fresh wire in there and keep it snug.
any one know what gauge wire is used? I'm guess 20 ga solid wire?
thanks

hah, rbob93 I just realized you are in Daytona. I guess you know what the local salvage yards are like. I went to that LQK on ISB looking for parts. I didn't want to waste my time since they don't track inventory and couldn't recall any 93-02s in the yard.
I would prefer to try and slip new wire in before hacking on harneses and stuff. Heck if I was pulling from the bone yard I would take my big hammer, saw, and gut the whole wiring out of the donor. I real massacre surgeon, lol..
