Hey guys I need some help I found a camaro and I have some questions if some 1 can help me out plz some guys is sellin a 2000 camaro ss
he's askin 5000
but it has some issues
abs light it's on. He said it needs the sensors that go on front tires.
It has the engine light on. He said cuz it has a exhaust leak and I did heard the noise. And it has new cats
and the worts thing is that
the rear end makes a noise when it's goin forward not on reverse. Any idea what could be the problem?
He said that 6 years ago it had a leak on the rear end and since then they haven't check the fulid.

I personally would get the SES light codes read and the ABS codes read also. More than likely the ABS light is on due to a bad or dirty wheel speed sensor, but it could also be a bad ABS module (which is a lot of money). You really don't need ABS, and people who get aftermarket rear ends tend to have the ABS removed. All up to you. The wheel speed sensors are around $50 I think (I'd double check).
The stock rear 10 bolt is a weak unit and with that many miles it may have seen its fair share of abuse over the years. You can pick up a used 10 bolt for around 250-400, depending on what shape its in if you needed to.
I'd let the owner know of these issues and have him drop the price more because this is money that will be coming out of your pocket just to get the car up and running the way you want it.
Good luck.

Thanks for the reply.
What you said bout the rim that it could be dirty it is he told me it's been more than 1 year that he haven't wash the car the calippers are full of dust he painted it red and you can't see the color anymore cuz it very dirty
I checked thesensors and they go for 50 dollars not to much
the exhaust leak, I don't trip to much bout it
the rear end is my biggest concern, I checked em on craigslist
for 300 dollars
my mechanic said he can fixed it ip n put some 3.74 for 600 dollars
but I dnt knw if I should put em.
Any advice on that?
Thanks for the help

Sunset Orange Metalic- 2001 Camaro SS
If it were me i'd look at new rear ends. if you go in there and the bearings are shot there could be a chance that the axles are too. Like said before, get the ABS/SES checked out. Besides that, seems like a good deal if the car is in good shape. Wish i could find one in that price range in my area.

Other things to consider: http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118628 $5k isn't a bad price for a car that is in good shape. Almost anything can be fixed... it's just a matter of what will the cost be? You need to take a hard look at the car and not let your desire overwhelm your common sense.

Never said the "rim"...the wheel speed sensor itself could be dirty or even could have come unplugged. If you know your mechanic well enough, his scanner will read the ABS code and tell you exactly which sensor is bad. You can also monitor wheel speed at each tire with a higher end scanner. The one reading 0MPH is the guilty culprit.

I do what I can, when you get that 9" i'll even keep a spare hand ready to point out what you need to do with my free beer in the other.
In seriousness with a car w/ over 100k you'll be lucky to get 20k out of it before something else goes bad, and in a fairly short time you will have nickeled and dimed yourself to the point where it will be more than just spending 3k more on a nicer car now. And these cars are so cheap now and so abundant there's no reason to buy a problem child.

as far as the 'ABS' light being on if its bad wheel speed sensors the cheapest i found was $170 a piece, cuz it's part of the hub assembly.Chevy wants $400+.also if its the ABS module i just picked it up today from being re-manufactured for a $139 from what turns out to be a nationwide well known company called BBA REMANUFACTURING in Taunton ,MA.this is just my input from experience....good luck.

^^^YEP and trust me, you're gonna want the GM one. I've seen some crappy aftermarket hub/bearings with sensor problems. So if it needs both fronts then thats $800+
And since you're in Cali and need to pass emision testing and it has exhaust problems and for some reason new cats...who knows what its gonna cost you to get this thing to pass. Its possible that someone slapped some crappy cats on there to try to see if it'll pass emission testing.
And then the rearend....
You possiblly have 3 expensive repairs there. But all 3 also have the possibility to be not too expensive.

Yeah I didn't think about the fronts needing the whole hub assembly. The rears are the ones that are less expensive at $50-$75 each.

True about the cheap sensors. At the end it's more expensive. It's always better go for the orininal parts
i had a 02 maxima n I put the cheapest one I found on the auto parts and it didn't last me to long
