Headlight Grinds when shut off!
About two days ago when I went to put the alarm on, the lights opened and closed and then I heard a loud, annoying as hell, grind coming from my right headlight. GM wants 300 for a new motor! Any suggestions? This happen to anyone else?

Almost everyone. The gear inside the headlight motor is plastic and goes bad.It can be replaced with a brass one.

On the cheap you could just turn the drive gear . They usually only eat up a portion of the gear so it can be re-adjusted and re-used. The brass gear will fix it for good, however.

The gear is turned by a screw shaped shaft on the motor. It only uses one side of the gear.
What you can do is open the headlight then remove the plastic shroud that is around the lights then you can see down in there.
Remove the nut that holds the arm on the motor and use the manual knob on the top of the motor to turn the motor 180 degrees. then put it back together and it should work fine.
I had to do this on my car once and it lasted another 80k I recently replaced the gear.
Good Luck!
