headers rubbing
I've got longtubes on my 01 ws6, and the driver's side is rubbing up against the frame down near where the collectors are. Is there any way to remedy this? The Y pipe is also hitting on the transmission crossmember. It sounds like there are gremlins with jackhammers in my engine bay, and under the car. I know some of it can be helped by new motor mounts, which ill be getting soon, but has anyone else had their headers rub there?

yes, mine were hitting floorboard... i took a hammer to the bottom of the car and "gently massaged" it up and out of the way.

A couple of the online stores sell this clamp that is suppose to help keep the ORY from vibrating. Mine ha quit over time. I've also seen post where guys have shoved a piece of poly in between.

I think some here have trimmed the K member to clear the collector on the driver side. I could be wrong though.

I had to "massage" my ORY on the driver's spot just as you describe. Put a small crimp on top of the 3" ORY and problem solved. I also had to trim about 1/8" clearance on the pass side, where the header tube was near the K-member, no biggie.

what brand are the headers/Y? The way I did my Y when it was banging was I loosened everything up back to the muffler. The angle of that I-pipe going over the axle can make a pretty large difference on how the Y rides. I moved that angle back and forth to give me the most clearance for my Y on both sides and then I wedged blocks of wood between the floorboard and Y in the places it was closest at. Tightened everything down and knocked the blocks of wood out. No banging since then.

how did you guys "trim"? They're hookery headers, and the y pipe is i think slp from the ws6 store. I've thought that the motor mounts will play a big part in it, but i wasnt sure what else. ill see if i can get pics of it today

You just get the razor out and hand it to the wife and tell her...........oops, you mean about the K-member!
I used my cut-off wheel at work to trim the offending place. You could probably use a dremel, if it had a small enough grinder.
Also as Orion says, adjustments to other sections can help a lot. Can't have the banging going on, people who ride will look at you like WTF?

i hadnt thought of the blocks of wood idea. Im getting the wheel re balenced today, so ill take some pictures of the areas. i dont have much experience with grinders. I just find it weird that it would START to happen over time.

I went solid mounts and grinded down the K. also something to look at is when I hooked up my existing exhaust piping it pulled the header over a bit to where its hitting the K again. So just have to fix the rest of the exhuast so it doesnt pull it over.
Oh and I have a set of brand new Poly mounts that I will be selling along with the stock clamshells if interested
