have no clue what hes talking about.help???
Alright im talking to this guy about a car and he is telling me that the "speedo is unhooked needs new gear". ill be honest i have no idea what hes talking about which is why i dont know where to post this question either. so someone please help and tell me what that means. and is it something easy and cheap to fix or exactly opposite. thanks

I think he is talking about the speedo drive grear gear in the transmision. It a quick and easy fix. I'm guessisng that this is an older car as I think that they went to speed sensors fully in the early 90's late 80s. If you are refering to your handle than it will be a sensor and not a gear. It its not that than chances are your speedo servo has lost power or is totaly dead.

Front Wheel drive have a different configuration. Usually on one of the output shaft housings of the trans-axle. Almost all Modern (Last Few Years) vehicles now use electronic Speed Sensors or transducers of some sort to drive the Speedo.

ya the car is an 88 mustang gt 5.0. it has all kinds of mods and runs fine im guessing cause they guy is willing to drive it down from chicago for me.
