87 octane... If you can't afford the gas..you can't afford the car bro. 91 is the minimum that should be used IMO...you could get detonation, and you lose performance with the cheap shit...

heck yeah, and detonation adds up to more than bad performance man, the change you are saving at the pump might come back and hit the pocketbook like you don't wanna know

    Thumbs up 18 to 30.7

I average around 18 mpg in stop and go city traffic

30.7 is about what I get on the highway.

That is taking it pretty easy and driving like everyone else.

I was pretty surprized because my 2002 neon was only slightly better

Yeah in town I get about 18-19 on a trip to California from Oklahoma round trip I averaged 33. Also about the octane, my manual specifically says "91 octane or the highest available in your area". I'm pretty sure if GM thought the LS1 could perform good enough to even make it thru warranty on 87 they would not have said that.

I am alll stock so if not at the track or out for fun Saturday 87 or 91 I can't tell difference. Tried a tank of 93 the other day since it was only 15 cents a gal more for some reason. No better milage and couldn't feel better power but stuck in commuting most of the time. I have never heard a detonation. The knock sensors should solved that. It must be retarding the spark a little but I can't feel it. Anyone actulally seen some dyno for 87 vs 91 on a car not heavily modded?
