Gas light? You mean check gauges light? Sending unit is inside the tank and I wouldn't change it for a gal difference. Usually when they fail the gauge stays on full and doesn't drop. Be kind to your fuel pump and fill it before the check gauges light illuminates.

start off by running some fuel system cleaner through the car. If you've ever seen how that sender works you'll understand how easy it is for that thing to get cruded up. The other thing that might be happening is your vent purge solenoid is sticking and not letting you actually fill the tank all the way up.

I would have to look to be sure because I'm having a brain lock up now but I believe it's actually under the hood on the drivers side of the intake mounted between coils 1 and 3. I'm pretty sure that's the purge solenoid there.

For some reason the senders accumulate sulfer deposits from the fuel and they start to act up. As stated, the Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner is advertised to remedy this issue. Add the cleaner to an almost empty tank and then fill it with 12 gallons of fuel. Run it until almost empty again and repeat the process one more time if you do not get results from the first batch.

Don't pump gas at Uncle Bob's Fillin' Station, lol.

I have had good luck with STP products in the past, so if you want to save a few bucks you could try a variation of products. They all recommend that you use them every oil change/3000 miles.

I wouldn't bother with the Lucas Oil Fuel Injector Cleaner, seemed to make things worse on a previous vehicle I had.

yep the purge solenoid under the hood. The vent solenoid is on top of the tank near the canister, I believe. The vent solenoid would be the one that could cause the gas to not fill up all the way...easily. The gas pump will keep clicking off if the gas tank isn't venting the air out.

    LOL..

I had some strange issues like that after a long road trip which forced me to fill up at some less than up to date gas stations.

A few tanks full of our local Quik Trip guaranteed gas fixed me right up.

I think Shell has some detergents or whatever in their gas also.

The fuel keeps the pump cool. Try to keep at least 5 gallons in the tank. We just discussed this in another thread recently.
