Just a FYI we do have a rule on here about officer bashing. Also 74 in a 45 is speeding it doesn't matter where you are speeding at. I always say this if you don't speed you will not get a ticket for speeding.
15. “Cop bashing”
Persistent or purposeful “cop bashing” is not allowed. Referring to a LEO, cop, policeman, etc is appropriate but unproven defamatory remarks or titles will not be tolerated.

Yeah what he said about not police bashing, especially as many of our members are LEOs. On the other hand, $211 for 46 in a 40? That's a big WTF??
I have no experience with radar detectors. I just wanted to comment on the $211 for 46 in a 40... Seriously, WTF??

Valentine 1 and escort 9500 are top of line. My escort 8500 served me well but it doesn't tune out false alarms like the 9500 does nor have the ability to upload "check points". It got to the point where I just stopped using it because the false alarms bugged me.
A detector is a good tool but none are full proof. If you are the fastest one on the road you will get tagged, if you are the only one on the road don't think the cop won't realize it was you, if he see's that in your car he will be more likely to drop the hammer on you. And if you get popped with laser you're fucked almost always since scatter is minimal. I don't even use my detector on runs anymore. The roads I like the detector won't pick up a signal until I am right on top of them most of the time anyway.
All that being said mine saved me a couple of times, and those times were almost always on the freeway at night commuting.

I went with the V995 (Beltronics), through Amazon, came in a complete kit with free shipping, and no tax.
Very reliable unit, used it twice on long trips (3k+), saved me more than once.

I personally would not get an Escort. I know people with them and they do not work well at all.
I've had a Beltronics for the last 6 years and it works great.
Most cops these days are getting smarter and smarter. They do not turn the radar gun on until right before they are clocking you. This renders any radar detector pretty useless.
The best defense is to pay attention and be responsible

PEWTER- 2001 TRANS AM WS6
Think its called k1 but it turns the whole car into a detector and the up grade gives you a rear view mirror with little arrows that light up to tell you where the signal is comming from.So as to not have a black box strapped to the windsheild.

Light Pewter Metallic- 2001 Camaro SS
i have heard over and over that the valentine 1 was the absolute best. i used to have a radar detector all the time. i have since given up on them and have gotten wiser on what speeds to travel and where. with me being a college student i spend a good amount of time on the highways. i make a 2 and a half hour and a 3 and a half hour drive quite frequently with no radar. the 3 and a half hour drive is on US 31, 465, and US 37. Those roads are all heavily patrolled. i travel at about 7-8 MPH over the speed limit and have never once gotten pulled over.

here in FW ......the city is having a budget crisis.....so how do they make up for it? you guessed it.....speed traps everywhere.....now having lived in germany and driven the autobahn.....speed does not KILL.....idiot drivers kill !!!! ......so by all means protect yourself from the city revenue enhancement department with the best radar detector you can find

Speed doesn't kill, it's coming to an abrupt stop that does...

Escort 8500 here works really well. Saved me bunch of times. If you don't turn off the X and Y bands you get alot of false alarms.

Phantom Black Metallic- 2004 GTO M6
I have a Whistler 360* that I have had since 1996 and it does me just fine. I don't speed as much as I did when I was in my teens/twenties, but it's good to know when the traps are set. I have heard good things about Valentine One and K40. I have thought about getting the K40.
Another thing to realize is that detectors are illegal in some states and can result in added fines or confiscation/destruction of detector or confiscation of vehicle.

sebring silver- Y2K SS CAMARO
werd i have a little cheapo depo from wal-mart that i got for like 50 bucks and it has saved my ass numerous times i just hate that when you are going through town the damn thing goes nuts. other then that as long as you are cautious where your are speeding you should be ok
FYI i never do more then 5 over on roads that i rarely drive. i tend to speed on roads i drive frequently because i know when and where to slow down

I think its time that LS1.com adds a "Like" button.
you have a good point. but that part is lack of expierence on my part.
and Theyre legal in KY and IN. Not VA tho.
my cobra gave me WAYYY to many false alarms. and yeah it went off while i was getting a writen warning for my plate light being out... he wasnt to happy i believe.
well im liking the cheaper Beltronics V8 for $200...but im thinking the Escort 9500. $500 is pricey but i believe it will end up paying for itself. i normally run 3-6 over on Highways and 8-12 over on Interstates and multilanes. (depending on my time)
but cops here are getting creative. theyve switched up their usual trap locations. but thanks for the inputs.
